5 Signs of a Nerve System Problem For a Singapore Chiropractor

The nervous system plays an important role in coordinating and controlling the functions of the body. When there is a problem with the nervous system, it can lead to various health issues and discomfort. If you experience any of these symptoms, it is essential to consult with a Singapore chiropractor for proper evaluation and care.

Read on to discover how to spot the signs of a problem in the upper neck which leads to nerve system problems affecting the rest of the body. See if you notice these on yourself or people you know!

1. Head tilt

A head leaning to one side is an indicator for an upper neck problem. This is due to a Subluxation in the upper neck closing the hole where the information passes from the brain to the body (know as the foramen magnum); it is usually at the top bone, C1.

To take the pressure off the nerves of the brain-stem the head naturally tilts to one side, similar to how we change our postures when we carry heavy items. If there was no head tilt this would narrow the hole at the bottom of the skull and would worsen the nerve system problem. When left untreated this can trickle down and affect the rest of the spine, leading to scoliosis. Correction of C1 helps the body to balance itself, no longer needing to adopt this tilted head posture.

2. Uneven shoulders

This is a similar compensation to the head tilt, but usually when the second bone in the neck (C2) is affected, rather than the first bone. This leads to one shoulder being higher and the muscles in the area becoming tight or going in to spasm. Correction of C2 helps to level the shoulders so the body doesn’t need to compensate for the nerve system pressure.

3. Forward head posture

This is another example of the occlusion at the hole in the skull (foramen magnum). It is similar to the head tilt, and is becoming more common due to our lifestyle habits, such as using phones and looking at screens. This can lead to a stooped posture affecting the rest of the spine too! Correction of this problem helps to have the head in a healthy neutral position and fix the posture in the mid and lower back too.

4. Cracks own neck

This is sure sign that something is wrong. When there is a problem in the neck it will start without any symptoms. When the problem builds up and gets big enough it will start to cause discomfort and eventually pain, migraines, headaches or even vertigo!

When it is uncomfortable it will feel stiff and your natural reaction will be to increase the movement. For some this results in cracking their neck, but it makes it worse every time you do it! It’s ok to crack knuckles or toes, but even Chiropractors with years of training can’t choose which bones in the spine to move on themselves, especially in the neck. The bones that actually move are the ones above or below the problem bones. It feels good because there is a release of endorphins but it isn’t helping the problem.

Chiropractic, especially Upper Cervical (read more here about how Upper Cervical helps blood pressure) techniques, is focused on adjusting the exact bones which are causing the problems, resulting in effective long lasting improvements.

5. Always rubs shoulders or neck

This is a sign the muscles are tensing up in reaction to the misalignments in the bones. he muscles are the first line of defense, tensing, splinting or spasming to protect the other more vital and harder-to-heal body parts (like you spine, brainstem and upper cervical spine). by correcting the problem in the upper neck the muscles relax naturally, without the need for any painful stretches or massage.
