5 Things All Singapore Chiropractors MUST Do!

Have you ever been to a chiropractic centre in Singapore or wondered what Chiropractors must do when you see them? Read on to find out what kind of tests and procedures they should be doing to give you the best care possible.

Things All Chiropractors MUST Do in Singapore

1. They Should Take an X-ray

After a thorough consultation, physical assessment and Nervous System tests, your Chiropractors must do an x-ray. Your x-ray is the best way to:

  • Ensure it is safe to adjust you or if to refer you to another doctor (such as a fracture)
  • Assess the condition of your spine and make a personalised care plan
  • Perform the most specific and accurate adjustments possible

A Chiropractor sending for an x-ray is kind of like a mechanic looking under your car bonnet. Unless they look inside it is very hard to know what is going on and to be as accurate as possible.

The ONLY times where an x-ray wouldn’t be needed would be with pregnant mothers, young children or when it is obvious the patient needs to be referred to another doctor.

(At Vitality Chiropractic Centres we send for specialised x-rays, the only clinic in Singapore to utilise these x-rays to give our patients the best care possible)

2. They Should Make a Personalised Plan

This plan is a blueprint to your health improvement. For the care to be successful there must be a structured plan based on:

  • Your history
  • Your x-rays
  • Physical tests
  • Nervous System tests
  • Evidence based research
  • The Chiropractors previous experience with cases just like yours

Without a plan the problem won’t be properly dealt with and your symptoms may return in the future or worsen. This plan MUST include Re-Examinations to track your progress and know when to spread out your appointments so you need less check-ups over time.

(At Vitality Chiropractic Centres we make a specialised plan for all our patients to help them achieve the best results. These include scheduled Re-Examinations where we assess how you are improving)

3. The Singapore Chiropractors Must Do Tests For Your Nervous System at EVERY Visit

Although commonly thought of as bone specialists, Chiropractors are actually focused on your Nervous System; especially how the bones at the top of the neck may be interfering with your your brain stem.

The tests at every visit could be leg checks, muscle testing, reflexes etc; however the best tests are the ones which are more objective, such as those done by machines e.g. Heart Rate Variability or Thermography.

These tests should be done BEFORE and AFTER any adjustments (if needed, more about that on the next point) to assess your condition and how the adjustment affected you. This is all provides more data on your progress.

(At Vitality Chiropractic Centres we tests our patients Nervous Systems at ALL visits, and do extensive testing at the Re-Examinations)

4. They Shouldn’t Always Adjust You

When you are on your personalised plan, the goal is to:

Stabilise the problem areas in your spine

Removing interference on your Nervous System

So that your brain and body can communicate properly and stay healthy

When this is on track there will be appointments where the Nervous System tests (see point 3 above) show that an adjustment is NOT needed. This is a great sign, it shows the body is healing and needs less help from the Chiropractor. This is something to celebrate!

If you are always being adjusted it may be a sign that the care isn’t very specific, or that there are other factors you need to address that are causing this problem; such as poor posture, lack of sleep or stress.

(At Vitality Chiropractic our goal is to check our patients regularly but adjust them as little as possible. This has provided our patients with long term improvements much more quickly)

5. They Should Advise Patients to Rest

Rest is a VITAL part of Healing, something Chiropractors must do. It isn’t advisable to stop all activity and exercise (as this can have negative effect) but instead to rest immediately after any adjustments, when they are necessary. This rest could be advice to not exercise after your appointment or to avoid stressful situations after appointments. However, the best way to rest for improved healing is STRAIGHT AWAY after any adjustments in the practice, where possible.

The reason it is better to rest in the practice is due to how the muscles and tissues of the body work. The adjustment produces a change in the body, resting gives the muscles and tissues time to adapt and get used to the more optimal alignment.

Think of it like your job, if you work without breaks (or sleep) the quality of your work goes down. The same is for Chiropractic adjustments, without rest the body can’t process the information properly and the speed of your progress goes down.

(At Vitality Chiropractic Centres we have dedicated resting suites for our patients that are mandatory after ANY adjustments)
