What Triggers Fibromyalgia?

what-triggers-fibromyalgiaWhat triggers fibromyalgia?

I own a Chiropractic centre in Singapore, and one of the conditions I’ve helped my patients with is fibromyalgia. It is a painful, chronic condition experienced at varying intensities throughout the entire body. Symptoms vary from person to person, but the common symptoms that most people feel are pain and extreme fatigue.

Those who experience fibromyalgia have widespread muscular pain, sleep disturbances, and gastrointestinal problems like IBS. Patients have cognitive issues and memory problems, as well as fatigue. It is the kind of fatigue that makes accomplishing regular tasks difficult and at times almost impossible.

Experts deem fibromyalgia as a “pain amplification syndrome.” To make matters worse, the nature of the pain can change over time. Headaches, for example, may turn into neck or back pain.

I’m writing this article to educate readers more about fibromyalgia, after what we have learnt from our patients at our Chiropractic centre ins Singapore. I’ll be tackling some of its triggers, as well as a valid form of natural relief. After reading this, I hope you will be more informed about this condition and find ways to deal with it better if you or a loved one suffers from it.

Ten Possible Triggers of Fibromyalgia

For some people, fibromyalgia symptoms are consistent most days, and for some reason symptoms will suddenly get worse. When this happens, it is a flare-up. Causes of flare-ups are often unavoidable, like changes in the weather.

However, there are avoidable triggers. Many of these triggers are lifestyle choices.

Physical and Psychological Stress

Too much stress, no matter what nature, is not good for anyone. But for people living with fibromyalgia, life is a little more complicated because stress contributes to flare-ups.

Rising stress levels, however, are controllable. It wouldn’t hurt to add in meditation sessions, writing in journals, and light exercises to your daily life as a countermeasure.

Hormonal Imbalance

Hormonal imbalance is another common trigger for fibromyalgia. That said, women are more prone to this condition. Choosing options for birth control or hormone replacement therapy are two ways in which women can make decisions that affect their hormone fluctuations.

Weather and Temperature Changes

Another unavoidable cause for fibromyalgia is when Mother Nature steps in. None of us have control over the sudden changes in weather and temperature.

What we can do is have awareness about these sudden changes and make the necessary lifestyle adjustments.

Injuries

We may be careful at all times, but accidents do happen. Some accidents result in terrible injuries, which cause fibromyalgia symptoms to begin or persist.

Most fibromyalgia suffers also sustained some form of neck or head injury before their illness. Whiplash injuries are the most common.

Specific Illnesses

Infections are another common cause of fibromyalgia. Some examples are Lyme Disease and common viral infections. Other health problems that magnify these symptoms are lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

Schedule Changes

Even if we have everything planned, certain factors force sudden schedule changes. While many of those are uncontrollable, some of them are. The sudden schedule change leads to stress, a trigger for fibromyalgia attacks.

It will all come down to proper stress management. We should expect delays and things not going according to plan. That should help prevent the sudden rise of cortisol levels to keep the condition at bay.

Dietary Choices

For the most part, we have control of the food we eat. And if you’re already suffering from a chronic condition like fibromyalgia, proper dietary choices are a must.

Keeping a healthy diet consistently is vital to boost energy levels and the immune system. In turn, there are reduced symptoms of conditions like fibromyalgia, which improves the overall quality of life.

Over-exercising

Having regular exercise may help keep fibromyalgia symptoms at bay. In fact, light workouts help reduce muscle pains brought on by the condition.

Overdoing it, however, may only hinder your healing process. Experts advise to take it easy, especially when flare-ups become frequent. Instead of intense workouts, go for short walks or gentle stretching exercises instead.

Changes in Medication

It is understandable for people with fibromyalgia triggers to resort to some form of medication to combat their illness. But it is important to note that some medications have unpleasant side effects.

Ideally, it would be best to avoid medications and instead find a more natural form of relief. And in the next part of this article, I will make a suggestion that may turn out to be helpful and life-changing.

Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care Fibromyalgia Relief

Many doctors focus on the individual symptoms of fibromyalgia triggers and try to manage the symptoms. They fail to look at another underlying reason: a connection with the central nervous system.

The connection is in the upper two bones in the neck, which are the most susceptible to misalignments. Once a misalignment occurs, the brainstem endures unnecessary pressure. It then confuses signals sent throughout the entire body.

One of the malfunctions that can develop is fibromyalgia. This is a problem Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care may be able to help manage.

Here at Vitality Chiropractic Centres Singapore, we provide relief for fibromyalgia through gentle and precise techniques to bring the neck bones back into alignment. We stay away from popping and cracking techniques used in traditional Chiropractic care.

After receiving this unique form of care, many of our patients report wonderful results. That is a testament to the effectiveness of our methods.
