In Singapore, there are many chiropractors that can help you when you’re facing problems with your health such as a sports injury, poor posture, slipped disc, lower back pain, neck pain or even mental health issues like anxiety and depression. But the big question is: how do you choose a good chiropractor, and how do you know whether they’re the right fit for you?
1) Reviews are your best friend
Before visiting any place (at least nowadays, anyway), people search for their destination online through social media or even do a quick Google search to read up on reviews. This is probably the first important step because you want to know whether the chiropractic clinic that you’re planning to visit has been helpful to their previous clients, whether they’ve been able to solve their problems.
Remember to assess every review carefully and based on merit – some clients may even leave bad reviews just because they felt like their chiropractor wasn’t providing the best customer service. Chiropractors are there to help you back to health, and not to always make you feel happy!
2) Cheap often doesn’t mean good
Unfortunately, cheap doesn’t always mean that it’s good for you. It may be good on your budget, but your overall health should never be compromised, especially with chiropractic care.
You can always do a quick search on Facebook – are there any chiropractic clinics out there who are giving enormous discounts for a promotional period that almost seems too good to be true? If you do find any, then it’s a big red flag that you should definitely avoid visiting that chiropractic clinic! Some of these “promotional periods” have been going on for years!
There are also issues with legitimacy and credibility – a cheap service may also alert you that the chiropractors there may not be certified. Beware of expensive chiropractic packages that require you to sign up for long periods of time and oddly frequent visits; they’re most likely not effective at managing your pain at all.
3) Do research – what kind of chiropractic techniques do they have?
If you want to know about something, all it takes is a mobile device or a computer and you’re all set. Search for the chiropractic clinic of your choice and look up their services by glancing through their website, such as their About Us section.
Another good way to determine whether they know what they’re talking about is through educational articles – is there content that informs people about the types of chiropractic issues that people face? Are there any educational videos about chiropractic care and exercises available? If it’s all just customer reviews and lacks any real useful information, then it’s probably just a marketing gimmick.
4) Educate yourself by reading scholarly articles
Have we not emphasised enough the importance of “research”? That’s because false information, especially those that deal with health, can be rampant which run the risk of misinforming the general public.
This means even government websites can also be full of misleading information when it comes to chiropractic care, therefore it’s always a great idea to search for articles that have already been certified. When looking upon information on your chiropractor’s website, try to see whether they make any references to scholarly articles; if they do, then rest assured that they’re pretty legit. Always fact check, fact check, fact check!
Which Chiropractors In Singapore Should You Visit?
So let’s say you’re finally done reading, researching and have narrowed down your options of chiropractors in Singapore that you want to visit. The question is; which chiropractor suits you?
Other than looking at reviews and looking at individual chiropractic clinic websites, there may be other factors that you’d like to take into consideration, like:
- Location: Is the chiropractic clinic too far for you? Is it easily accessible via public transport?
- Techniques available: What chiropractic techniques specifically cater to your condition? Have previous clients acknowledged their effectiveness in helping said conditions? Are the chiropractic techniques evidence-based?
- Your pre-existing condition(s): Are you facing a common problem that can be solved by a chiropractor, or something that you’re unsure about?
Chiropractors are there to help relieve your discomfort. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to give them a call – most of them would be more than glad to answer any questions that you may have.
How Does A Chiropractor Diagnose Patients?
We know anticipating to be a new patient in an unfamiliar environment like the chiropractic clinic can get you feeling jittery. The first session is always a bit nerve-wracking, but you’ll have nothing to fear when you’re in good hands (quite literally!).
Once you’ve set an appointment at your desired chiropractic clinic, it’s recommended that you bring along any medical reports or scans that you may have done (i.e. x-ray, CT or MRI scans) to help the chiropractor identify the root cause of the problem.
A few physical tests may also be done such as touching the area where you feel discomfort such as your back, neck, shoulders, head, hips, knees or feet. Your chiropractor may also ask you questions to understand the level of your pain in order for them to customise a plan that is specific to your condition.
It is important to note that chiropractors are not medical doctors, even though they have a degree in doctor of chiropractic; they don’t do bone surgery or prescribe medication as a medical doctor would. Instead, modern chiropractors provide chiropractic based on their research that they’ve done throughout their career – some may specialise in chiropractic adjustments for the nervous system, and some may specialise in spinal chiropractic adjustments.
At the end of the day, what matters is your health – you should choose a chiropractor that you are comfortable and confident with, and have trust in them that they can solve your health problems. Recovery is not an easy one-way street, but it takes a lot of time and effort to achieve that goal. Do what’s best for you, and you’ll be on your merry way to recovery in no time!
