Natural Migraine Headache Relief: 10 Tips From a Singapore Chiropractor

relieve-migraine-headache-naturally-in-10-easy-stepsThe path to relieve a migraine headache naturally can be difficult. Migraine causes a severe headache that is much worse than the average headache. People often take medications to get rid of migraine headaches, while some seek the help of a Singapore chiropractor for migraines.

Doctors often suggest pain relievers such as ibuprofen, aspirin, and acetaminophen, but if you’re looking for all-natural relief options for your migraine headache, try these ten easy steps.

1. Stay in a quiet, dark room.

Many migraineurs have an abnormal and extreme sensitivity to lights and sounds. Staying in a quiet, dark, or dimly lit room can help avoid your sensitivities and put you to sleep. When asleep, your brain releases neurotransmitters, the “feel good” chemical messengers in the brain that can help ease your migraine pain.

2. Massage your head.

According to the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), massaging the scalp, forehead, and temples can aid in the alleviation of migraine headaches. Doing so can stimulate circulation and help patients relax.

3. Try temperature therapy.

Put a compress in your forehead or neck. Many migraineurs favor a cold compress as ice offers a numbing effect, which can minimize the feeling of pain. A study discovered that utilizing a frozen neck wrap during migraine attacks helped diminish migraine headaches. On the other hand, some people prefer a hot compress as heat can ease the tense muscles. Taking warm baths or showers also brings similar relief.

4. Apply mindful meditation.

Sit down, relax, and focus on your breathing. This is a less utilised way to relieve migraine headache naturally, as most of us seek external remedies options.
Taking a moment to do these can help move your attention away from the pain. In a
partial study, researchers observed that mindfulness could deliver effects similar to medication in people with chronic migraines.

5. Keep yourself hydrated.

Be sure to drink 8 to 12 glasses of water in a day. Dehydration triggers a migraine, and drinking more fluid can bring back your body’s lost water and electrolytes, says the National Headache Foundation. You may add a slice of lemon or lime to improve the taste of water so that you can drink more.

6. Exercise!

Counter intuitive as it may seem, doing mild exercises such as walking or yoga can help improve your migraine headache. Exercise can reduce your stress and get your blood flowing. Your body also releases endorphins during exercise, which are natural painkillers, according to the American Migraine Foundation. However, consult with a doctor first before starting an exercise habit.

7. Drink a caffeinated beverage.

Small amounts of caffeine can alleviate the early stages of migraine pain. A study reported that caffeine has “vasoconstrictive” elements that aid in the narrowing down of the blood vessels, which reduces migraine headaches. Caffeine can also boost the pain-reducing effects of migraine medications such as aspirin, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen. Keep your consumption of caffeinated beverages in moderation, however. It may bring withdrawal headaches if you regularly consume a lot of caffeine.

8. Go for aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy can provide soothing effects for migraines. Many migraine patients benefit from the scents of peppermint or lavender.  A small study found that the inhalation of lavender essential oil can be an effective method for migraine headache management. The results of the study showed that people who inhaled lavender essential oil for 15 minutes reported a reduction in the severity of their migraine headaches than patients who did not.

9. Use ginger.

A recent study found that ginger powder is effective in reducing migraine pain, and its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects are comparable to that of sumatriptan, a common migraine drug. All 100 participants involved in the study said they were willing to continue with either intervention.
Another
research study showed that putting a gel with ginger and feverfew herb beneath the tongue during the onset of a migraine can decrease the duration and strength of an attack.

10. Get Upper Cervical Chiropractic care.

Unknown by many, most cases of migraines and headache disorders develop following a head or neck injury. Injuries in these crucial areas of the body can mis-align the atlas and axis vertebrae, the topmost bones in the neck. Misalignment of these bones can have negative effects on the body, such as reducing the blood flow in the brain, damaging the brainstem, and restricting the draining of the cerebrospinal fluid. All of these contribute to the development of migraine headaches.

A case study observed an adult woman who was dealing with chronic daily migraines and tension headaches. She was a professional ice skater and had suffered a concussion. Migraines and headaches began to occur after she hit her head on the ice.

Upper Cervical Chiropractors found that there was an Upper Cervical misalignment in the woman’s neck. After just three months of receiving Upper Cervical Chiropractic care, all her migraines and headaches were gone. Even after a year of the therapy, her symptoms still had not returned.

For her, the best solution was a Chiropractor for migraines, with research showing a success rate for migraines of over 90%!
